Presque Isle County is located in the northeastern corner of the
lower peninsula of Michigan, just north of the halfway mark to the North
Pole (or the Equator).
It is bordered on the west by Cheboygan County, on the southwest by
Montmorency County, and on the southeast by Alpena County. To the
east and north is Lake Huron. It covers 419,584 acres of land or 656 square
miles. Almost 20% of Presque Isle County is State Recreational Land.
State Parks and Recreational Areas cover 5,822 acres and there are
80,454 acres of Mackinaw State forest. Fishing and boating sites
cover a total of 284 acres. Presque Isle County has no federal
recreational land.
Presque Isle County has 68.7 miles of beautiful Lake Huron shoreline
on its eastern border and there are 20,928 acres of inland water.
Forty-eight inland lakes cover 14, 627 acres with the largest
being Grand Lake. Grand Lake covers 5,660 acres and has 19
islands. There are 35 miles of main streams and 266 miles of tributaries
totaling 301 miles. Major rivers in Presque Isle County include the
Ocqueoc, Rainy, Black and Thunder Bay. |

There are more than 14,000 residents in Presque Isle
County living in 14 townships, two cities and three villages. The
city of Onaway is located on the western edge and
Rogers City is located
on the eastern edge of the county. The villages of
Millersburg,
Hawks, and
Posen dot the interior of the county.
Although there are a few stoplights (flashing red and orange), there is
only one traffic light in the whole county! It is located at the
corner of Erie and Third St. in
Rogers City.
Although the climate can be extreme both during winter
and summer, the seasons are something to behold up here. Winter
nights are long, but summer days are longer! Most of the
precipitation in the area arrives in the form of snow with an average
snowfall of 88.9 inches from November to March. All the better to
