Presque Isle County is located in the northeastern corner of the lower peninsula of Michigan, just north of the halfway mark to the North Pole (or the Equator).  It is bordered on the west by Cheboygan County, on the southwest by Montmorency County, and on the southeast by Alpena County.  To the east and north is Lake Huron.

It covers 419,584 acres of land or 656 square miles. Almost 20% of Presque Isle County is State Recreational Land.  State Parks and Recreational Areas cover 5,822 acres and there are 80,454 acres of Mackinaw State forest.  Fishing and boating sites cover a total of 284 acres. Presque Isle County has no federal recreational land.

Presque Isle County has 68.7 miles of beautiful Lake Huron shoreline on its eastern border and there are 20,928 acres of inland water.  Forty-eight inland lakes cover 14, 627 acres with the  largest being Grand Lake.  Grand Lake covers 5,660 acres and has 19 islands. There are 35 miles of main streams and 266 miles of tributaries totaling 301 miles. Major rivers in Presque Isle County include the Ocqueoc, Rainy, Black and Thunder Bay.

There are more than 14,000 residents in Presque Isle County living in 14 townships, two cities and three villages.  The city of Onaway is located on the western edge and Rogers City is located on the eastern edge of the county.  The villages of Millersburg, Hawks, and Posen dot the interior of the county.  Although there are a few stoplights (flashing red and orange), there is only one traffic light in the whole county!  It is located at the corner of Erie and Third St. in Rogers City.

Although the climate can be extreme both during winter and summer, the seasons are something to behold up here.  Winter nights are long, but summer days are longer!  Most of the precipitation in the area arrives in the form of snow with an average snowfall of 88.9 inches from November to March.  All the better to ski with you!
